From what 6 owners of the Instinct 3 AMOLED reported between July and September 2026. Earlier generations are not counted.
The Instinct 3 AMOLED puts a colour screen and a flashlight in Garmin's tough outdoor case, and owners like it. One calls it their favourite watch so far; another, six months in and using it from the office to the snowboard slope, is still pretty happy and picked it over the Solar version because the colour screen looked better.
The screen is also where the compromises show. With always-on enabled one owner finds the battery drops too fast, and another says the display still goes dark when the arm is lowered and the wrist gesture doesn't always wake it. A couple of owners report firmware quirks, from overlapping text on the morning report to a relaxation activity that no longer vibrates. One owner comparing it with an Apple Watch against a chest strap found the Garmin less close during strength work, but still wears the Instinct day to day for battery life.
It is a sound pick for someone who wants a rugged watch with a bright colour screen and a flashlight, and who is fine with the display sleeping to keep battery life long. Anyone who wants a face that is always readable without thinking about battery should look at the Solar MIP version.
