Google Pixel Watch 5

Android onlyPaid tier: Google Health Premium3 FDA-cleared features

Google's 2026 watch keeps Pixel Watch 4's case, weights and battery ratings but moves to Wear OS 7, doubles storage to 64 GB and, per Google, runs 20% faster. Google lists blood pressure trends and insulin-resistance tracking as wellness features; its watch page still read "Coming September 2026" on October 6, 2026. It carries three FDA-cleared heart features, including Loss of Pulse Detection, which Google says no other smartwatch offers.

  • Headline: Google: 'Up to 30 hours with always-on display' (41 mm, 332 mAh); 45 mm: 'Up to 40 hours with always-on display' — Google publishes no AOD-off figure.
  • Always-on: Google: 'Up to 30 hours with always-on display' (41 mm).
  • Battery Saver: up to 48 h (41 mm) / 72 h (45 mm). Quick Charge Dock: about 15 minutes to 50%. No GPS-workout figure published

The ring’s outer track is the headline claim; the inner two are the always-on and GPS figures as a share of it. An empty track means Google does not publish that figure. Why the figures differ

A clearance says what a feature is allowed to claim, not that it replaces a doctor. Cleared versus wellness features

What the extra money buys: Against the Google Pixel Watch 4, the extra ~$50 buys nothing in the fields compared here (GPS bands, maps, music, LTE, flashlight, payments, cleared features, battery, sizes); the difference is elsewhere — materials, screen or design. See the Google Pixel Watch 4.

Features, per Google

  • Dual-frequency GPS (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS)
  • Satellite SOS communication
  • Loss of Pulse Detection, ECG app, irregular rhythm notifications
  • 3000-nit Actua 360 AMOLED display
  • 64 GB storage, Snapdragon W5 Gen 2
  • Touchless one-handed gestures

Where the specs put it ahead

  • FDA-cleared Loss of Pulse Detection, which Google says no other smartwatch offers
  • Full health features on any Android 12+ phone, unlike Samsung's Galaxy-phone lock
  • Google's battery figure already assumes always-on display, so it is a realistic number
  • Satellite SOS without needing the most expensive model
  • Google commits to updates until at least October 2029

What it gives up

  • AI coaching and most guided workouts sit behind Google Health Premium at $9.99 a month
  • Little hardware change from the cheaper Pixel Watch 4 beyond storage and speed
  • Google's update commitment is 3 years, shorter than Samsung's listed security-update date for the Galaxy Watch9

The two lists above are drawn from the maker’s own pages and prices, not from owner reports. Where owner discussion has been read it appears in its own section below, so the two are never mistaken for each other.

What owners say

From what 62 owners of the Pixel Watch 5 reported between August and October 2026. Earlier generations are not counted.

Owners who moved up from older Pixel Watches, a Galaxy watch or an Apple Watch talk up how the Pixel Watch 5 looks and feels: it is quick, the domed glass draws compliments, and four owners of the 45 mm report two days or more per charge. Two owners whose tattoos defeated other watches say its heart rate sensor still gets a reading.

The sorest problems are in software. Sleep tracking is the sorest point, with nights that never log or awakenings that never show. Steps and automatic workout detection miss activity for some, Gemini fails quietly for others, and several features shown at launch, such as making a face with Gemini, had not reached some owners' watches weeks later. Smaller recurring problems include the watch locking itself after a moment off the wrist, call audio going to the wrong device, random reboots, and screen brightness getting stuck low with the adaptive toggle missing.

On hardware, older bands can rattle on the new case, the new side-mounted charger does not fit older stands, and some owners have reacted to the band or sensor. It suits Android owners who want a good-looking everyday watch and mainly track workouts and notifications. If sleep data is the reason you are buying, the owner reports so far are mixed.

What owners like

  • Feels noticeably snappier than older Pixel Watches: owners coming from the original, the Watch 2 and the Watch 3 describe it as smooth and responsive day to day
  • Battery outlasts what owners expected: four on the 45 mm report two days or more between charges, and one 41 mm owner was at 54% after a full day
  • Charges quickly: two owners describe it as very fast to top up, and one moving from a Watch 4 found it a bit quicker still
  • Heart rate reads through wrist tattoos for two owners whose Galaxy watches failed to get a pulse there
  • The domed design wins people over in person, and owners call it comfortable and more like a watch than a gadget
  • When they work, the raise-to-talk and pinch gestures get real use for reading notifications, media and navigation

Common complaints

  • Sleep tracking draws complaints from seven owners: some get no sleep logged at all for days or weeks, and others say it misses awakenings and overstates how well they slept
  • Step counting and automatic workout detection are unreliable for some: steps go uncounted when the arm is still (mowing, walking while playing guitar), and walks, rides and a soccer game went unrecorded
  • Gemini is flaky for five owners: it confirms a note or calendar event it never adds, throws errors, shipped showing the old Assistant, or will not run offline
  • Battery reports split: some owners hit sudden drains of 10-15% an hour or overnight losses after a good first week, and one found the new faces with always-on display cut runtime to under a day
  • Older Google bands, including Google's own leather band, rattle or gap on this case for three owners even though the included band fits snugly
  • Three owners report itching, redness or a rash under the sensor, and one found the new stock band smelled strongly of chemicals

Questions owners ask about the Google Pixel Watch 5

Does LTE work when I leave my phone at home?

It depends on the carrier. One owner on Visible says it switches to LTE within seconds, much faster than the Watch 4. Others had a rougher start: Verizon could not find one owner's IMEI, another on Verizon had texts and music cut out on a run, and a support rep told one owner that many US carriers were not working yet.

Will my Pixel Watch 3 or 4 bands and chargers work?

Bands attach, but three owners say older Google bands, including the leather, stretch and trail bands, have more play on this case and can rattle or gap. The charger is new and connects from the side, so owners with older stands and phone-plus-watch docks have had to look for new ones.

Does the Pixel Watch 5 make it through a full day?

Four owners on the 45 mm report two days or more, with one reporting 65 hours and 25% left. Some found it got worse after a good first week, and owners chasing drains point to always-on display with the newer faces and to third-party sleep apps. Note that one owner coming from a Watch 4 felt the 5 lasts a little less.
