Cleared health features

Amazfit cites no regulator clearance for a health feature on this model. Its heart-rate, sleep and blood-oxygen readings are wellness features.

A clearance says what a feature is allowed to claim, not that it replaces a doctor. Cleared versus wellness features

What the extra money buys: Against the Amazfit Bip 6, the extra ~$90 buys full topo maps, 32 h more GPS time and a longer headline battery (25 days vs 14 days). See the Amazfit Bip 6.

The two lists above are drawn from the maker’s own pages and prices, not from owner reports. Where owner discussion has been read it appears in its own section below, so the two are never mistaken for each other.

What owners say

From what 20 owners of the Amazfit Active Max reported between July and October 2026. Earlier generations are not counted.

What Active Max owners praise is the basics: a big bright screen, a fluid interface and battery life that runs to weeks. People moving from a Forerunner, from older Amazfits or from no smartwatch at all say it does what they need for the money, and one trail runner followed a map through dense forest for 25 km without the track drifting.

The frustrations are in software and the app. Gym users find strength tracking thin, with no auto-detection for some, no automatic pause between sets and no Hevy app. Owners noticed it trailing the newer watches for updates over the summer before Zepp OS 6 arrived in August. A run of small quirks, from an alarm that always takes over the whole screen to call muting that does not reach the phone, comes up in owners' reports.

It is a good fit for runners, walkers and hikers who want maps and a long battery on a budget. People who mainly lift weights, or who want the newest features first, should look at how Amazfit treats this model in its update plans before buying.

What owners like

  • Battery is the headline for owners: one calls it endless, another picked it over a Forerunner 165 for it, and a third gets close to a month between charges
  • Owners like the big AMOLED screen, and one finds the interface fluid and pleasant to use
  • One owner who came from a Forerunner 255 ran 25 km of trail in dense forest following an on-watch map and saw no deviation from the planned route, and says it does everything the Garmin did apart from daily suggested workouts
  • Owners upgrading from cheaper or older watches are impressed with it for the price, including one first-time smartwatch buyer

Common complaints

  • Strength training is the weak spot: one owner found it would not auto-detect a strength session, another says it named the exercise but never paused between sets, a third found no gym logging that suited them, and a fourth cannot install the Hevy app
  • Updates lagged the newer models: one owner found it not eligible for an August update, another got a repeat of the July update instead of the new features, and a third worries the roadmap ends in January 2027; Zepp OS 6 reached one UK owner in mid-August
  • One owner says the data in the Zepp app is hard to make sense of and the new reports are behind the Zepp Aura paywall, and another says BioCharge drops from about 80 at waking to 5 by noon with no exercise, on their wife's Active Max too
  • Durability worries from individual owners: one scratched the glass within a week after three years of a Garmin epix without a mark, and another's watch factory-reset itself and would not pair after a few seconds in a pool
  • Day-to-day quirks pile up: a workout rating screen that would not close, a full-screen alarm that cannot be turned off, muting a call on the watch leaves the phone ringing, no way to see the time of day during a workout, a storage-full error when installing watch faces on a week-old watch, and far fewer third-party faces than the Bip 6 gets

Questions owners ask about the Amazfit Active Max

Does the Active Max track strength training well?

Owners are lukewarm. One found it recognised the exercise most of the time but never paused between sets, so reps ran together unless paused by hand. Another found no automatic strength detection like the Helio Strap has, and a third wanted a gym app such as Hevy, which is not available for it.

Has the Active Max received Zepp OS 6?

Yes. One UK owner got it in mid-August while syncing to Apple Health, after other owners had complained through July and early August that it was missing updates the newer models already had.
