Garmin's 2026 entry Forerunner puts a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen and five buttons on a 40 g watch, and Garmin says it carries over training readiness, training status, wrist running power and running dynamics from its pricier Forerunners. It is the longest-lasting of the two May 2026 models at 13 days per charge. Garmin Pay, music storage, a barometric altimeter and a compass are all reserved for the Forerunner 170.

Best for: A first-time runner who wants adaptive coaching and recovery metrics without paying for payments or music
The ring’s outer track is the headline claim; the inner two are the always-on and GPS figures as a share of it. An empty track means Garmin does not publish that figure. Why the figures differ
Garmin cites no regulator clearance for a health feature on this model. Its heart-rate, sleep and blood-oxygen readings are wellness features.
A clearance says what a feature is allowed to claim, not that it replaces a doctor. Cleared versus wellness features
What the extra money buys: The cheapest Garmin running here. 4 pricier siblings in the same line: Garmin Forerunner 170, Garmin Forerunner 265, Garmin Forerunner 570.
